Math

There are various techniques which mental calculators use to perform mathematics without needing paper to work out the answer. I play with the question of how we can use mnemonics to memorise commonly needed results and thus do maths from memory rather than from mathematical operations.

One example of this is the 'math people' who I introduced in an earlier article. The colour of each person's hair and the hair style / hat of the person translate into digits and thus answer multiplication questions.

The backdrop images article also suggested a way to instantly know the answer to some multiplication questions.

In the future, I want to present a wide range of mathematical skills based upon mnemonic techniques.

Here is a multiplication method for multiplying a 2-digit number by a 2-digit number.

Here is a method for learning pi to 100 places.

If you want to browse the 100 math people then they are presented here.

Note: Surnames translate, via the letter:digit system into the logarithm of each number.
